The old abbey of Cervara, on the road to Portofino is an ex-monastery that was converted to a hotel and location for cultural events. It was declared a national monument in 1912, and the architecture was sympathetically converted to respect the history and the marvellous surrounding countryside, preserving the unique atmosphere and its wealth or art and history. Thema created the outer veranda, which is used as a public space, reflecting the building’s magnificent style. An ancient wing has also been upgraded with the inclusion of large glazed walls, devised by Thema.
